Collection of Common Medical Tapes | Selection and Application of Medical Tapes

Medical tapes are widely used in daily life. Nowadays, there is a rich variety of medical tapes on the market, which may leave you confused about how to choose and apply them.Let's get to know these four types of medical tapes together with the editor today!

1.Medical Adhesive Plaster

Material: Cotton fabric with medical pressuresensitive adhesive on the surface.

Features: Good tensile strength, adapting to the needs of different body parts.Waterproof and antipollution properties.Easy to tear both longitudinally and transversely, with good stickiness that resists degluing. Breathable and skinfriendly.

Applications: Fixing surgical dressings and lightweight catheters, postsurgical wound protection (e.g., fixing gauze or bandages after surgery).

Additional benefits: Also known as zinc oxide tape, it has astringent, moisturizing, and protective effects on the skin, promoting wound healing. It is effective for skin chapping on hands and feet and can be used to cover frostbites.

2.PE Perforated Breathable Tape

Material: Polyethylene (PE) film as the base material, with medical pressuresensitive adhesive on the surface.

Features: Uniformly distributed microholes for strong breathability, allowing easy discharge of moisture and sweat.Ultrathin material for comfortable pasting. Medical pressuresensitive adhesive is nonirritating and less likely to cause allergies. Moderate stickiness, painless to remove, and leaves no residue. No degluing or glue seepage; unwinding does not fluff, and it can be torn neatly in both horizontal and vertical directions without scissors.

Applications: Wound dressing for trauma surgery, fixing infusion needles and catheters, dressing fixation, protecting frictionprone areas (e.g., worn heels), DIY sealing stickers, and fixing patches.

3.Microporous NonWoven Breathable Tape

Material: Made of highquality nonwoven fabric.

Features: Better flexibility and adjustability, suitable for wounds of various shapes and parts, conforming to the body's contours for comfort.Environmentally friendly base material, easy to tear without scissors.Microporous structure for good breathability, allowing the skin to breathe naturally.Medical pressuresensitive adhesive is nonirritating and hypoallergenic.Gentle peeling without hurting the skin; good initial, sustained, and readhesion, resisting and curling, with no residue when removed.

Applications: Wound dressing for trauma surgery, fixing infusion needles and catheters, fixing gauze dressings, and skin protection.

4.Silk Type Breathable Tape

Material: Composed of silk, medical hotmelt adhesive, and a core.

Features: Lightweight, soft, and highly compliant, fitting the skin comfortably. Allows natural air permeability for skin breathing, reducing the risk of infection.Humanized serrated edge design for easy handtearing without scissors.Hotmelt pressuresensitive adhesive ensures firm pasting, with stickiness unaffected by seasonal climate.

Applications: Fixing various medical devices (e.g., urinary catheters, gastric tubes, oxygen tubes) to prevent sliding or falling off, maintaining their normal function, and protecting the skin from friction and irritation caused by the devices.

How to Choose a Suitable Medical Tape: Consider the Following Aspects

1.Purpose of use: Ensure safe fixation while prioritizing skin safety.

2.Duration of use: Select tapes based on the intended usage time; for longterm use, consider sustained stickiness.

3.Application site: For joints or swollen areas, choose tapes with strong ductility to reduce skin damage.

4.Environmental factors: Consider the environment of the pasting site (e.g., dry, humid, sweaty, or oily conditions).

Types of Medical Tapes

Medical breathable tapes are not only widely used in the medical field but also have many dailylife, such as fixing earrings for those without ear piercings, protecting joints during study to reduce wear, organizing messy data cables, etc. More ingenious applications of medical tapes are waiting to be discovered!
